Saidi's New Path!

Saidi is a 15 year-old-boy who was kicked out of school for failing the English portion of his National Exam… His story is not unique in Tanzania, where 7th graders are required to take exams that determine whether or not they are able to continue on in their public education. This is a major problem for children like Saidi who are taught by teachers without fluency in English. Approximately 35% of these students do not pass the exams. We at Asali, are working hard to change this statistic amongst the students we serve.

Thankfully, Saidi was given a second chance at his education. The after-school English club at Simba’s Footprints (Asali’s partner site in Moshi, Tanzania) helped Saidi become more competent in English. He studied hard, and with the help of his sponsor, Asali founder Margot Hinchey, he was able to pass the entry exam for a local vocational school called St. Joseph. Saidi is enrolled in a three-year mechanical program: a future that never would have been possible without the support of Simba’s Footprints education program!

Margot was able to go with Saidi’s family to drop him off at his new school. Everyone is beyond thrilled for this amazing opportunity that Saidi has to continue his education and learn a trade that will one day become his career.

Asali is proud to partner with Simba’s Footprints to support and enhance the education of our children in the Moshi area! We are thankful for the opportunity to walk alongside these students and their families as they navigate the difficult educational system in Tanzania and work hard to better themselves.

Thank you, Margot, for being our boots on the ground in Moshi as we strive to meet the needs of these amazing kids!

Best of luck Saidi! We can’t wait to see how you grow over the next three years!

Love and honey,

The Asali Bees
