Building a Healthy Hive

Our hive is buzzing with excitement over the successful launch of our healthcare initiative at Simba's Footprints. This program is designed to meet the basic healthcare needs of all of our community students as well as to develop holistic records for each child under our care.

With help from Simba's social worker, Belinda, we identified the 30 most vulnerable students in our programs and purchased them health insurance for the year. These students now have access to affordable health care for the first time and, with the help of their parents, are navigating clinic visits and some hospital referrals. Health insurance for one year costs about $6 per child.

As a team, we created holistic records for each child that include important information about school, home, and healthcare. These records will alert us to any serious issues going on, as well as help us to track each child's progress through the years.

We are in the process of taking all Simba's students to the local clinic for eye and ear checks and physical exams. The doctor at the clinic informed us that she is happy to help us with the physicals, but unfortunately she did not have an eye chart or a scope to use. Asali purchased these tools for the clinic. We're thrilled that not only our own students, but the whole community, can benefit from them!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated to help us launch this healthcare program. You are making a very real and very significant difference in the lives of many children in Tanzania, and we all thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Love and honey,

The Asali Bees
